Zhejiang innovates tidal current power
As the world's first tidal current power station, the LHD Zhoushan Tidal Current Power Station in East China's Zhejiang province, has generated over 8.7 million kilowatt-hour of electricity after eight years of continuous operation, holding the world record for both single-unit capacity and operational duration.
Through iterations of its generator unit, the cost of tidal current power generation per kWh has decreased from 106 yuan ($14.77) with the first-generation unit to 1.1 yuan with the current fourth-generation unit (with scaled installation).
Lin Dong, director of LHD, said the power station will continue reducing costs and further contribute to the efficient use of clean energy.
